Hi there, I’m Linda…
A Zambian economist with over 15 years of experience in policy research at both the local and international levels. I have a PhD in Economics. I’m interested in addressing inequalities in education, in the labour market and in how people access financial services.
I write about…
The extraordinary people who call Africa home. I draw attention to the challenges that they face. I learn about what they aspire to achieve. I wrestle with what it will take to get them there. I celebrate their relentless courage and creativity.
My Story
I left Zambia when I was 3 years old and spent the next 14 years abroad but what has shaped me was made right here in Africa, often by the women who celebrated who I was and who gave me the permission to be whoever I wanted to be. I hope that you hear some of their voices through my work.

Where I’ve worked
I’ve continued to travel extensively throughout my career, working on interventions that cut across Africa. My most recent projects have been in France, Madagascar, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia and South Africa.

Elections in Zambia – A job well done
Zambia's recent general elections challenge anyone whose ever said that democracy is a lost cause in Africa. The media coverage had pretty much written off the outcome before a single vote was cast. The world should prepare for a rigged vote, warned the Economist. The...
Am I the only one struggling to get business funding?
Mbali had taken longer than planned to leave her corporate job and pursue a lifelong dream of running a catering business. There was always a reason to put it off. She was too young. She needed the financial security. She would be crazy to walk away from a steady...
